______
Welcome! We are an um-
brella site, serving these
S.H.H.S. Classes exclu-
sively: the graduating
year of 1970, then on
thru 1979; S.H.H.S. mean-
ing–in this case–Sleepy
Hollow High School, N.Y.;
Which–incidentally–
served not only N. Tarry-
town (present-day Sleepy
Hollow), but most parts
of "The Tarrytowns"
(as we used to say!).
______
Others should not con-
fuse any of the follow-
ing S.H.H.S. schools
with this school of ours
(which is, undoubtedly,
the original S.H.H.S.!):
Sweet Home H. S., also in
New York State
Sacred Heart H. S., another
in New York State
Sacred Heart H. S. (again),
this time in Connecticut
Sacred Heart H. S. (still
again), this time in Kansas
Shawnee Heights H. S., also
in Kansas
Science Hill H. S. in TN
Scotts Hill H. S., also in TN
Spring Hill H. S., another
in Tennessee
Sylvan Hills H. S. in AR
Shaker Heights H. S. in Ohio
Smoky Hill H. S. in Colorado
St. Helens H. S. in Oregon
Sam Houston H. S. in LA
______
______
Sam Houston H. S.
(again), 2 schools in Texas
South Houston H. S., also
in Texas
South Hills H. S., another
in Texas
South Hills H. S. (again),
this time in California
Shadow Hills H. S., also in
California
Sunny Hills H. S., another
in California
St. Helena H. S., still
another in California
South Hadley H. S. in MA
South Haven H. S. in MI
Sterling Heights H. S.,
also in Michigan
South Hagerstown H. S.
in Maryland
Snow Hill H. S., also in
Maryland
______
Why so many? Think
about it! Doesn't it just
make some sense, when
naming a high school, to
have the first initials
match the last two--
only in reverse order?
______
Also, why not inter-
pret "SHHs" as the
plural form of "SHH"?
(That's something we all
heard a lot of, especially
in the school library!)
______
A side note: since 1979,
our school has been shar-
ing its moniker S.H.H.S.
with a member of the
President's Cabinet: the
SECRETARY OF HEALTH
AND HUMAN SERVICES!
______
Identifying oneself as a
Tarrytowner
is pretty straightforward,
but what do we use for a
resident of Sleepy Hollow?
Sleepy Hollower
lacks that needed ring
to it. Better:
Sleepy Hollowan
______
Or perhaps:
Sleepy Hollowian
(but does one stress the
2nd or 3rd syllable?)
______
Or perhaps the most crea-
tive of all (but requiring
reversal of the word order):
Hollow-Sleeper
After all, it is primarily a
"bedroom community."
______
______
Many of you are familiar
with the popular Sleepy
Hollow TV series, which
had a four-season run on
Fox TV. However, far few-
er are aware of the follow-
ing movie; actually, our
namesake feature film!
(Please touch to enlarge.)
______
While Sleepy Hollow
High isn't available for
viewing in its entirety on
Youtube at present, we ARE
able to present here a por-
tion of the official trailer:
Just click on the above
photo of our Mr. Breezo,
captured on film expres-
sing his innermost feelings
about teaching at S.H.H.S.
______
______
Next, a little history is in
order–VERY little–as we
typically tried for in Cit.
Ed. (or was it already
called Social Studies?).
______
Most members of these
Classes were born in the
1950s, many at Phelps
Memorial Hospital in
Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.
(then called–of course–
North Tarrytown).
______
If you were to look back
more closely, you'd soon
discover that native
Tarrytowners often
emanated from an earlier
hospital (below)–but only
those born before 1956.
______
You could even say that--
during these Baby Boom
years--the so-called Tarry-
town Hospital turned out
more babies than Fisher
turned out bodies!
______
You might even deduce
that our villages were
suddenly situated at the
crossroads of the so-
called generation gap.
______
Listen to famous D.J.
Alan Freed mention
Tarrytown during a
diatribe in which he
defends teenagers!

______
Imagine the following
conversation, now: oc-
curring around a piano
at one of our prede-
cessor schools–either
North Tarrytown High
School or Washington
Irving High School:
(man at piano): Jingle
Bell--Rock? Not at our
house!
______
(woman): It's just a fad--
and we're not Beatniks!
_______
(next man): You down
there, at the end! Why
do you call yourself–
a rebel?
_______
(tallest man): I know--be-
cause--he never ever does,
what he should! Just what
are you guys rebelling
against?
______
(youth): Whadda ya got?
If we're not ever any
good, just because: we
don't do, what every-
body else does; then go
ahead & call us rebels!
_______
(singing man): Da do ron-
ron-ron, da do ron-ron!
______
Lastly, on a more
scholarly note, we
often overlook that,
despite the break-
up of the USSR,
Sleepy Hollow HS
has a sister school
located there!
The freshmen of
Helleva High School,
now in the Russian Fed-
eration, have sent us
these warm greetings:
_____
______
Now it's time to return to
"We Gave it the College
Try," and visit one or
more of our pages there.
______
These "Class of" pages
are where S.H.H.S.
news will appear
(if/when it comes to
the attention of the
thrifty Webmaster).
______
Never have those hallowed
doors looked prettier
(as in, on the way out)!
